YOU ARE INVITED

The Birmingham CROP Hunger Walk
is the community coming together to raise money and awareness for hunger relief... locally and around the world.  Over 2000 CROP Walks happen every year nationwide.  Walkers are asked to obtain pledge dollars from family, neighbors, colleagues and places of worship for their participation in a 5 kilometer walk (3.1 miles). Everyone is invited to participate in the Birmingham CROP Hunger Walk.  It is a family walk event, not a race.  It's fun for all ages.

Join the CROP Hunger Walk! It is a community event involving anyone who wants to fight hunger around the block and around the world.  The Birmingham CROP Hunger Walk encourages the active involvement of teams and individuals from public and private schools, civic and cultural groups, area businesses and all faith groups.

There is no fee to participate.  But each walker is encouraged to raise at least $100.  The Birmingham CROP Hunger Walk hopes to raise $20,000.

CROP Walk T-Shirts!  If you raised at least $50, you will receive a free t-shirt!  If you raised less than $50, you can obtain a t-shirt for a $10 donation.  Vintage t-shirts from previous events are available for a $5 donation.

HELPING OTHERS

25% of the funds raised stay in the Birmingham area
to support local hunger and poverty fighting agencies.  Specifically, the 2009 Birmingham CROP Hunger Walk will support Greater Birmingham Ministries. The remaining money is used to alleviate hunger and poverty in 80 countries throughout the world.

In addition to assisting the homeless and impoverished families of the Birmingham area, CROP helps families in the US and around the world who are victims of disasters like the earthquake in Haiti, Hurricane Katrina, refugees in Darfur, the tsunami of Indonesia, and African refugees fleeing war and famine in countries like Sudan or Niger. CROP also supports long-term development projects in the world's poorest communities... projects which can break the cycle of hunger and poverty like agricultural training, health clinics, micro-businesses, schools, and fresh water wells in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

“I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold service was joy.”

-RABINDRANATH TAGORE

"It's time for greatness, not greed. It's a time for idealism, not ideology. It is a time not just for compassionate words, but for compassionate action."
-MARIAN WRIGHT EDELMAN

"Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice. It is the protection of a fundamental human right, the right to dignity and a decent life."
-NELSON MANDELA

"Be servants of peace . . . Weep with those who are sorrowful, rejoice with those  who are joyful.  Teach those who are ignorant.  Care for those who are sick.  Serve your family . . .  Serve your neighbors . . . Serve your cities . . .  Serve the poor.  Join others who serve.  For in the end it will be the servants who lead us all."

-SARGENT SHRIVER
