COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

You are invited to participate in this annual event!  The Birmingham CROP Hunger Walk is the community coming together to raise money and awareness for hunger relief... locally and around the world.  Over 2000 CROP Walks happen every year nationwide.

Walkers are asked to obtain pledge dollars from family, neighbors, colleagues and places of worship for their participation in a 5 kilometer walk (3.1 miles).

Everyone is invited to participate in the Birmingham CROP Hunger Walk.  It is a family walk event, not a race.  It's fun for all ages. It is a community event involving anyone who wants to fight hunger around the block and around the world.  The Birmingham CROP Hunger Walk encourages the active involvement of teams and individuals from public and private schools, civic and cultural groups, area businesses and all faith groups.

There is no fee to participate.  But each walker is encouraged to raise at least $100.  The Birmingham CROP Hunger Walk hopes to raise $20,000.

CROP Walk T-Shirts!  If you raised at least $50, you will receive a free t-shirt!  If you raised less than $50, you can obtain a t-shirt for a $10 donation.  Vintage t-shirts from previous events are available for a $5 donation.

HELPING OTHERS

25% of the funds raised stay in the Birmingham area to support local hunger and poverty fighting agencies.  Specifically, the 2011 Birmingham CROP Hunger Walk will support Greater Birmingham Ministries. The remaining money is used to alleviate hunger and poverty in 80 countries throughout the world.

In addition to assisting the homeless and impoverished families of the Birmingham area, CROP helps families in the US and around the world who are victims of disasters like the earthquake in Haiti, Hurricane Katrina, refugees in Darfur, the tsunami of Indonesia, and African refugees fleeing war and famine in countries like Sudan or Niger. CROP also supports long-term development projects in the world's poorest communities... projects which can break the cycle of hunger and poverty like agricultural training, health clinics, micro-businesses, schools, and fresh water wells in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

 MAKING A DIFFERENCE

You truly can make a difference! By participating in the Birmingham CROP Hunger Walk, you can help put an end to world hunger and poverty. You are invited to get involved and join your community in doing something tangible to address this critical humanitarian issue. You are encouraged to organize a team and begin raising funds. Your team may consist of the members of your family, a group of your friends, your neighbors, your co-workers, the members of a club or organization you belong to, or members of your church, synagogue, temple, or mosque.

CROP Hunger Walks are neighbors walking together to take a stand against hunger in our world.  Together we raise awareness and funds for international relief and development, as well as local hunger-fighting.  CROP Hunger Walks help to support the overall ministry of Church World Service, especially the grassroots, hunger-fighting development efforts of partner agencies in some 80 countries.

CROP Hunger Walks help to provide tools of hope that empower people to meet their own needs. From seeds and tools, to wells and water systems, to technical training and micro-enterprise loans, the key is people working together to identify their own development priorities, their strengths and their needs -- something CWS has learned through some 60 years of working in partnership around the world.
